Our take

A unique feature of this TaylorMade Men’s RBZ Black Driver is its unusually large 460cc titanium head that features a lightweight titanium core. When combined, the core and head work together to better place the perimeter weighting around the head of the club, making this one of the most forgiving drivers on the market; which is precisely the reason why it is our top pick!

The patented technology from Taylormade, the Speed Pocket,  takes center stage within this RBZ Driver. It promotes better launch trajectories and less spin for more accurate shots overall, while the premium matrix White tie 55 shafts allow for maximum distance to be achieved, as well as a smooth feel.

Additionally, Cup Face Technology is able to improve the amount of face flexing which is able to achieve better distance, performance, as well as increasing the amount of face flexing, which in turn works to maximize the overall power and speed.

A rear sole weight moves the center of gravity back deeper in the clubhead, to create an easy strike which will fly higher and longer, making this driver a great club for low handicappers looking to get more from their tee swings. Overall, this is a great driver that offers good distance, high forgiveness, and a great feel,  as well as ensuring you look the part, too!

Pros

  • Affordable and high-performing
  • High trajectory launch
  • Adjustable loft configuration

Cons

  • Some users find the headcover to be too flimsy

Our take

Looking for a driver that is going to be able to help reduce your chances of slicing? Look no further than the PGX Offset Golf Driver!

First off, the offset of the driver will help you to square the ball at impact. Having a square face at impact is important and essentially means that you will be able to enjoy consistently more straight shots that follow their intended trajectory.

As well as this, the very large sweet spot (thanks to the 460cc head) will deliver a huge amount of forgiveness on your swings, while the integrated Offset Technology will work to counteract the chance of a slice from occurring, giving you the opportunity to hit more fairways and enjoy the satisfaction of more successful shots.

When holding this driver, it feels lightweight and well balanced, with a satisfying ‘click’ each time you take a shot. Visually, it has a very sleek finish with a black matte finish and a small green alignment indicator that you will see at the address position to improve accuracy.

All in all, Pinemeadow has created a club that is super affordable for all players and can help them have a more successful game. Whether you are just starting out or have been struggling with a slice for many years, this driver is most definitely worthy of a look.

Pros

  • Excellent value for money and ideal for slicers
  • Very lightweight without a ‘whippy’ feel
  • Made with anti-slice offset technology

Cons

  • Due to the large sweet spot, this driver is sometimes illegal in some golfing  tournaments

Our take

If you’re after an affordable, ‘all-round’ driver that’s going to be able to improve your speed and accuracy, as well as feeling lightweight and fun to use, we think that you’ll love the MAZEL Titanium Golf Driver.

For starters, this driver boasts an impressive Cup Face technology that is able to help reduce the face thickness and instead promote a high rebound structure which is better able to deliver a faster ball speed. Plus, thanks to the large sweet spot, the deep face design allows for more straight and accurate shots, allowing you to retain an increased average distance, even if you’re prone to slicing or mis-hitting.

Additionally, this MAZEL driver has been carefully designed to feature heavy back weighting which is able to remove weight from the front and instead of placing it in the low and back of the head for a lower, deeper center of gravity, making it an ideal choice for both long & high tee shots.

Made with your enjoyment in mind, this driver features an ultra-light head made of titanium 2041 which not only allows for faster and steadier ball speeds, but it also means that the driver itself feels lightweight and easy to swing. The thin head also allows for a ‘crisp’ sound upon impact. Regardless of your golfing experience, this driver is a great option.

Pros

  • High launch angle for better trajectory
  • Stylish black and gold design
  • Very forgiving club head

Cons

  • Non-adjustable

Our take

Whether you’re a longtime golfing fanatic or just started out recently, chances are you’ve heard of the TaylorMade M6 Driver! Not only is it a favorite of Tiger Woods, but it is also one of the very best drivers out there for increasing speed and accuracy.

Carefully designed to ensure that you’re never off-target, the twist face of the M6 features a clever face curvature that has been specifically engineered to reduce the chance of any sidespin or slices, all the while delivering straighter shots, time and time again.

The aerodynamic, all-carbon sole allows for the majority of the weight to be placed low and back to increase the MOI and lower CG. By doing so, the M6 is extremely forgiving with a higher launch and lower spin, while the ‘Speed-injected’ technology has been engineered to offer the maximum legal limit of ball speed possible, meaning that you can step up to take your shot with complete confidence, regardless of your natural swing speed.

Pros

  • Very forgiving if you happen to hit off-center
  • Comes with a sleek yet rugged headcover
  • Delivers a ‘solid’ feel as well as a satisfying ‘click’ on every shot
  • Specifically created to improve accuracy and distance overall

Cons

  • Expensive

Buyers Guide

Now that you’ve read our reviews of our favorite drivers currently available to purchase, there are still a few key features you’re going to want to consider before buying a driver. Here are some important factors to keep in mind:

The adjustability

In general, most drivers will allow you to adjust the loft and center of gravity of the club as and when you need to (most often depending on what kind of shot you’re looking to take). All you need to do is turn the top of the shaft near the clubhead to slightly adjust the loft angle of the clubface. Additionally, some club heads even have removable weights that you can move to different positions up and down the club in order to change the center of gravity while out on the course. This is an ideal feature to keep an eye out for because it means that you can, quite literally, tailor the driver to accommodate your particular style of play and natural swing.

The clubhead size

Believe it or not, the clubhead size makes a huge difference, especially if you’ve been fighting the slice!  The size of the driver is taken from the volume of the clubhead, with the largest being 460cc These clubs give golfers the largest (legal) sweet spot, minimizing the effect of mis-hits and encouraging maximum distance and trajectory. As a side note, in some golfing tournaments, you might find that this large size is illegal – so it’s worth double-checking if you plan on playing competitively.

The clubhead weight

The weight of the clubhead is another important factor worth taking into consideration before making a purchase.  Most of the newer drivers on the market tend to vary between 265 and 310 grams in the weight of the clubhead. When selecting the best driver for you, we recommend first considering how powerful your swing speed is. If you struggle to generate power, you might find that using a lighter driver will allow you to generate a higher clubhead speed, which results in a better distance. However, if you’re a more experienced player or naturally have a strong swing, you might be able to use a heavier driver, which will help to create even more distance.

The club loft and shaft

The loft and shaft are also important to think about when choosing a new golf driver. The loft of the driver is the measurement of the angle of the clubface when it’s sitting on the ground. So, with that being said, a driver with a loft of fewer than 10 degrees results in lower shots, while greater than 10 degrees of loft gives you a higher arcing shot.

Therefore, you’ll find that it is most common for drivers to range from 8 to 12 degrees. As a general rule of thumb though, more experienced players tend to be able to control a low loft driver (which offer more distance), while newer players often find themselves needing the control that a higher loft club brings to have more success out on the greens, although this often means sacrificing distance a little bit.

When it comes to the shaft of the golf driver, the maximum length of a driver allowed in the golfing rulebook is 48 inches. However, most companies stick with a shaft length between 43 and 46 inches, just to be on the safe side. Similar to the loft, a shorter shaft is often somewhat easier to control (making them a popular go-to for beginners), however, it does mean sacrificing some distance as opposed to a longer shaft, which is favored by more experienced players.

The center of gravity

Though the center of gravity varies from driver to driver, those that contain a center of gravity placed toward the back of the club will tend to generate more loft with a higher backspin rate, which allows for better distance, speed, and accuracy for golfers of all levels. When looking for a new driver, we recommend keeping an eye out for models that offer this.

Golf Club Set FAQs

Though it is easy to assume that drivers with the newest technologies used by all of the leading golfing superstars will be the best choice to purchase, this is not always the case! Generally speaking, drivers are built mainly with a single purpose, distance of your off-the-tee shots. So, with that in mind, a driver is built with this in mind: to improve the ball speed and launch trajectory, as well as reducing the chances of a slice and improving overall accuracy and power. Therefore, when finding the one most suited for you, we recommend taking into consideration your level of experience, your swing speed, and how accurate your shots are. To help you, we recommend referring to our buyer’s guide above which gives helpful advice on how to find the right driver for you.
